GIFTS & CYF: Lunch & Movie Matinee - In Person
GIFTS and the Youth of CYF get together in the Labyrinth Room for lunch and to watch the film version of the musical RENT. (Enter at 1 West 29th Street and take the stairs or elevator to the lower level; follow the corridor to the Labyrinth Room.)
In RENT, set at the dawn of the 1990s, a group of New Yorkers in the East Village struggle with their careers, love lives, paying their rent, and the effects of the AIDS epidemic on their community. The film features six of the original Broadway cast members reprising their roles. RENT is based on Puccini's 1896 opera La Bohème.
Following the film, we’ll have a brief discussion of topics raised by the movie – among them materialism, AIDS, homophobia, and the yearning to leave a meaningful legacy.
Lunch is provided at no charge* but a reservation is required.
We request a cash donation at the door, in whatever amount you wish, that will be directed to the Ali Forney Center: protecting LGBTQ+ young people from the harms of homelessness and empowering them with the tools needed to live independently.
CLICK HERE to register by Friday, June 10.
(*Lunch is made possible by a generous donation from an ally of our LGBTQ+ community.)
