Volunteer

Being of service to others encourages us to step outside ourselves and enrich the lives of those that we touch in our community and our world. Volunteering can lead you to opportunities that not only interest you but, more importantly, feed your soul. In this section of our website, you will find information on how you can do your part.

Interpreters: Are you multilingual? Your language skills can make a huge difference in the life of an immigrant child. Interpreters play a critical role in helping our immigrant clients access justice and due process. Interpreters can help clients obtain asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), and other forms of legal relief by interpreting during attorney-client meetings and interviews with immigration officers. Fill out the survey below if you are interested in volunteering with the Safe Passage Project and we will follow up shortly.

The Vine

Prepare a Home Cooked Meal for College Students
The Vine NYC Campus Ministry is always looking for cooks willing to prepare a home-cooked meal for our weekly campus ministry gatherings on Tuesday evenings.  College students eat cafeteria food all the time and are deeply grateful for the opportunity to share in a simple, home-cooked meal once a week.  Please prepare a main dish that can be reheated for 12 people.  The dish should be either vegetarian or have a vegetarian option. You can drop the meal off at First Presbyterian Church (12th Street and 5th Ave.) on the Tuesday that you cook or Pastor Becca from The Vine can likely pick up the meal from your home around 5:00pm that day if that works better.  She will reach out to you to coordinate pick up or drop off. Interested?  Email Pastor Becca to schedule a day to volunteer.  This is an opportunity that you can do one time or sign up for regularly. Thank you!

Midnight Pancakes Study Break
The Vine NYC Campus Ministry hosts late-night study breaks for college students in Morningside Heights during finals each semester.  We open up the doors to Broadway Presbyterian Church, which is across the street from Columbia University, and serve a midnight pancake feast right to hundreds of stressed-out students in need of a break right. We also have live band karaoke at the study break each semester, so if you enjoy singing, this could be a great volunteer event for you!  We need volunteers to set up, cook pancakes, serve bacon and fruit salad, greet students, and clean up at the end of the night. Set up starts at 9:00pm and clean up is over by 1:45am.  Volunteers are welcome for all of this time, or whatever part of it works for them. Email Pastor Becca to schedule a day to volunteer.
